โœฆ Synopsis

described his activities and responsibilities during [2003][2004] and reported that he and President-Elect Donna Henderson attended all regional meetings this past fall. b. He presented information for general discussion related to the decline in both ACA and ACES membership. ACES membership has declined in the past year. Participants discussed the possibility of surveying current and lapsed ACES members. Feit asked that ACES members send their ideas for ways to increase membership to Geof Yager, Membership Committee Chair. A member noted that the ACA convention form allows for renewal of ACA, but not divisional, membership. c. Bylaws Changes. Felt reported that the membership voted to approve two Bylaws changes. The first, by a vote of 554 in favor and 2 against, changes the name of the current ACES "regular" membership category to a "professional" category. Therefore, the term "professional" has replaced "regular" as a membership category. The second Bylaws change approved, by a vote of 534 in favor and 22 against, allows for conducting votes online. d. The members also overwhelmingly (76%) voted in favor of holding the ACES conferences in the fall. Feit noted that the next ACES conference will be held in October 2005 and will be hosted by the North Atlantic Region in Pittsburgh. North Central will host the 2007 conference in Ohio (site to be determined). If ACES adheres to a biennial convention schedule, Western will host the ACES conference in 2009, Southern in 2011, and Rocky Mountain in 2013. 4. Donna Henderson reported on ACA Governing Council actions. Following is a summary. Henderson stated that a full report would appear in the summer 2004 Spectrum. a. G.C. approved the Association for Creativity in Counseling as a new organizational affiliate. b. G.C. endorsed the Competencies for Counseling Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/ Transgendered Clients as presented by AGLBIC. c. G.C. passed a revision to the bylaws regarding divisional status. Rather than basing this solely on number of members as is currently done, to hold voting privileges on G.C., divisions will need to demonstrate viability by having officers (or a slate of incoming officers) and a minimum of 400 members or having 70% of membership belong to ACA. d. A motion from COPARC went forward to G.C. to require members of ACA to belong to a minimum of one division. There was not enough information, and this was sent to committee and G.C. will revisit in the fall 2004 meeting. e. ACA has lost approximately 18% of members in the past year. Approximately 600 new members joined in the last month, which is most probably correlated with the conference.
