✦ Synopsis

Generalizing a result obtained by Jauch in the nonrelativistic case, it is shown how a suitably formulated principle of Lorentz invariance for a not necessarily free particle, restricts the possible form of its interaction with external fields to that deduced from the principle of minimal coupling ordinarily used for electromagnetic interactions.
