โœฆ Synopsis

An evaluation of a miniature combined heat and power (CHP) system for generation of electricity and hot water for buildings has been carried out. The system utilizes solar heat pipe collectors to convert an evacuated liquid into gas under pressure. The pressure is used to drive a engine and thereby produce mechanical energy and hence electricity. The surplus electricity produced by the system is converted into hydrogen and oxygen using the electrolysis of water. The hydrogen is stored and can be converted to electricity using a hydrogen/oxygen fuel cell, to top up if and when required. The system also produces distilled water, which could be used as pure drinking water. This paper describes computer modelling of the system and its potential applications.
