The oil production of tropical Africa is about I/3 of Africa's total production. As to diamonds this means the relation in quantity, not in quality and value. -As to gold the share of tropical Africa cannot compete with South Africa. However it is still important. Chief producers are Rhodesia, Ghana (previous "Gold Coast") and Zaire. Some gold is collected in Ethiopia and elsewhere. There are numerous gold fields which were mined before and can be worked possibly again in Tanzania,
