โœฆ Synopsis

Operating in conjunction with the SOFC, the reformer system produced synthesis gas with a flow rate of 10-45 Nl/min, using desulfurized jet A-1 kerosene as the fuel. Because removing sulfur from the kerosene is important for future applications of the fuel cell system, two desulfurization processes were successfully tested at Fraunhofer ISE.

The developers say that in addition to being more environmentally friendly, the fuel cell technology promises to attain an appreciably higher efficiency value than the kerosene-fueled turbine. For future applications of the reformer unit and fuel cell in a complete power-supply system in aircraft, the project partners aim to further improve the measured efficiency of the system components that have now been tested.
