A number of companies and organizations worldwide are actively pursuing the use of fuel cells in forklift trucks and material-handling equipment. US-based Plug Power recently acquired General Hydrogen in Canada, a leading developer of fuel cell motive power for electric lift trucks, as well as Cellex Power Products, which is focused on a similar market [FCB, April and June 2007].

And Canadian-based Hydrogenics and LiftOne in the US, a division of Carolina Tractor, are working towards deploying hydrogen fuel cells in forklift trucks at several manufacturing facilities in South Carolina [FCB, March 2007].
