Lestat is Anne Rice's vampier-held, een creatie van een duistere en vruchtbare fantasie. Ooit was Lestat een aristocratische jongeling in het Frankrijk van vóór de Revolutie, nu - in de jaren tachtig - is hij een demonische rock-star , de zanger van een immens populaire band. Hij snelt door de eeuwen heen, op zoek naar mensen - wezens - zoals hij, op zoek naar het mysterie van zijn eeuwige, rusteloze bestaan. Lestats ervaringen zijn meeslepend, erotisch en buitengewoon emotioneel.
