The concept of quenching pairs is proposed for a system of randomly distributed centers which can quench one another rhrou& an ener=g cross-relaxation mechanism. The formula for the quenching rate is derived for the ca5e of an ewiton migrating over the centers. Comparison is made %ith experimental data for cross-relaxational quenchmg of the vibrarionally exited molecule CH&CIq. The micro-interaction parameters are estimated to be CDD = 2 X 1O-33 cm6/s and C DA = 3 X 1O-35 cm6/s. -
