In the coordination sphere of a metal cluster complex, the substrate can often interact with multiple metal centers simultaneously. The bridging coordination of hydride or carbon monoxide is a typical example of such interaction, and the multiple coordination of the ligand seems to be closely related to the dynamic behavior and reactivity of the ligand. Indeed, a carbonyl ligand in a cluster complex often undergoes intramolecular migration between the metal centers by way of an intermediary species with the bridging carbonyl.
