Abstract

Microwave transmission characteristics of electromagnetic crystals with normal and stretched sphere diamond lattice structures were investigated experimentally. Three‐dimensional stretched structures were designed using a CAD program to form band‐gaps in the GHz range. Diamond lattices were stretched linearly and nonlinearly in the direction 〈100〉. Electromagnetic crystals with lattice modification were fabricated by means of stereolithography (SL) and gelcasting process using aluminum‐oxide ceramic successfully and their microwave properties were measured by network analyzer and a rectangular waveguide system. Compared with the normal diamond structure, the microwave properties of the electromagnetic crystals containing stretched lattices have some regular changes depending on the stretched structures and the material filling ratio. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
