The molecule 2,6-difluorobenzonitrile has been analyzed in the frequency ranges from 8 to 12 GHz and from 31 to 40 GHz at dry ice temperature using a conventional 100 kHz and a Hewlett-Packard 33 kHz Stark-modulated microwave spectrometer, respectively. The rotational and centrifugal distortion constants (in MHz) are A ΛΓ 1761.032 (43), B ΛΓ 1501.359 (18), C ΛΓ 810.524 ( 18), D J Γ 00.00691 (6), D JK Γ 00.03236 (12), D K Γ 0.11642 (64), d J Γ 00.003470 (3), and d K Γ 00.028937 (16). The benzene ring appears to be distorted if the generally accepted bond lengths of the peripheral bonds are used.
