✦ Synopsis

FSS consisting of arrays of single rings ha¨e been etched onto optically transparent, but microwa¨e reflecting layers deposited on thin supporting substrates. The transmission performance is compared with that of arrays of metallic elements with the same dimensions. With the correct choice of materials, the relati¨e passband losses were reduced to 1 dB.
