✦ Synopsis
This book is the second part of the complete edition titled, Microwave and Millimeter Wave Phase Shifters. The reviewer reviewed the first part in 1992/93 and intended to follow immediately afterward with the review of the second part, but this has been postponed for more than a year because of serious health problems. Here, now, is the review. Volume II contains the principles and designs of further phase shifter circuits.
The book is organized in such a way that both the chapters and the pages are numbered continuously through the two volumes. The second part begins with chapter 8, "Phase-Shifter Circuits Using Switching Devices," which covers the general and special operating properties of reflection-and transmission-type phase shifters. Attention is given to circulator coupled, hybrid coupled switched line, loaded line, and high-pass/low-pass phase shifter circuits. Also, possibilities for realizing of broad band fixed phase bit circuits are explained. Concluding remarks and references that are quite up to date complete this chapter.
Chapter 9, "P-I-N Diode Phase Shifters," starts with an introduction: the authors give a simple description about the P-I-N diode and its equivalent circuit. The next part offers a good discussion on switched-line stripline and microstrip phase shifters. In a following section of this chapter a very good coverage of hybrid coupled stripline-like and microstrip-line phase shifters is given. The authors treat, with special attention, the subject of loaded-line stripline and microstrip phase shifters, to which a design example is also attached. The problems of fin-line phase shifter and driver circuits are briefly touched upon by the authors. At the end of chapter 9 are comparisons of various phase shifters and references. Al- though the presentation is nice, a considerable
