✦ Synopsis

Microstructural changes during photodegradation of poly(viny1 chloride) (PVC) samples obtained after different ultra-violet (u.v.) wavelengths were studied by the combined use of ')C and 'H NMR spectroscopy. The samples were characterized by determining tacticity and the length of isotactic and syndiotactic indexes. The Behnisch model was extended to the u.v.-degradation of PVC and degradation parameters were also derived from tacticity data. It was found that the rate of dehydrochlorination ra,/2& increased with an increase in dosage of U.V. radiation. u.v.-degradation studies were also carried out in the presence of different metallic stabilizers and the corresponding structural changes were monitored by NMR spectroscopy.

The miscibility of poly(hydroxyether of bisphenol A) (phenoxy) and poly(Nvinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and high-resolution solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques. The DSC studies showed that the phenoxy/PVP blends have a single,
