โœฆ Synopsis

Mathematical models for describing mixing in continuous flow systems are developed based on the concepts of age and life expectation. The models are able to represent a large variety of mixing states consistent with any residence time distribution. Using these models, the effect that mixing has on chemical conversion is investigated for several types of homogeneous reactions. Sensitivity to mixing, and beneficial conditions of mixing are reported.
