This paper demonstrates the effective coupling between a single-mode fiber (SMF) and an edge emitting laser diode (LD) using a semi-ellipsoid microlens on the SMF endface. The semi-ellipsoid microlens was fabricated using photolithography, thermal reflow, mold electroforming and polydimethylsiloxane
