โœฆ Synopsis

Methods employing (N, N)-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine are described for estimating the concentrations of chlorine dioxide, free available chlorine, and free available bromine in mixtures containing all three components or any combination of two components. In threecomponent systems chlorine and bromine but not chlorine dioxide are deactivated by malonic acid, permitting direct determination of chlorine dioxide. The sum of all three components is determined in the absence of suppressant. Glycine can be added to suppress chlorine but not chlorine dioxide and bromine. In solutions containing both bromine and chlorine either glycine or (\mathrm{N})-tert-butylphthalamic acid sodium salt suppresses chlorine reversibly and permits individual estimation of the concentrations of bromine and free and combined chlorine in the same sample. 1994 Academic Press. The chlorination of surface waters is known to form trihalomethanes. Therefore, chlorine dioxide (Cl02) is being considered as an alternative disinfectant. This study was designed to determine the effect of chlorine dioxide and its metabolites, chlorite (C10;) and chlorate (ClO;), on rat fetuses exp

Chlorine interacts with organic materials in surface water, leading to the formation of trihalomethanes, that may be carcinogenic. Studies were conducted to investigate the pharmacodynamics and toxicity of chlorine (0, 1, 10, 100 mg 1-') in drinking water in rats. Blood glutathione (GSH) was signifi
