Microcracks in Fatigued FCC Polycrystals by Interaction between Persistent Slip Bands and Grain Boundaries

l'ersistent slip Lands (J'K13) are zones of liigh plastic strain localization in fatigued fcc metals. They cannot propagate across the grain boundaries of plycrystalline specimens. Consequently, a local stress field should exist near the end of the PSB, "inducing" new 1'SlZs in the neiglibouring grain or initiating cracks within the grain boundary. This interaction between I'KBs and grain boundaries will be discussed in the present paper. The observed effects may be divided into few characteristic groups, the occurrence of wliicli tleprntls on tlic geotnetrical relations between I'SH, grain boundary and specimen axis.

I'ersistente Glritbander (I'SH) sind Zonen grol3er plastischer Delinungskonzentration in eriuudeten kfz Metallen. I n vielkristallinm Proben enden PSB gewohnlich a n den Korngrcnzen. Dadurcli entstelit in der Urngebung des PSB-Endes ein lokales Spannungsfeld, durcli das neue I'SH in1 Nachbarkorn ,,induziert" werden oder die Korngrenze aufreil3t. Diese Wechselwirkung zwischen PSB und Korngrenze wird in der vorliegenden Arbeit init Hilfe der l i E7vI-Technik an erniiideten Nickelproben untersucht. Die beobachteten Effekte konnen in wenige charakteristische Gruppen eingeteilt werden, deren Auftreten 1 on der geoinetrisclien Anordnung von PSB, Korngrerize und Probenachse abliangt.
