## Abstract Undoped and cesiumβdoped zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films have been deposited on sapphire substrate (0001) using the solβgel method. Films were preheated at 300 Β°C for 10 min and annealed at 600 and 800 Β°C for 1 h. The grown thin films were confirmed to be of wurtzite structure using Xβray d

Abstract
ZnO nanostructures have attracted great attention for possible applications in optoelectronic and spintronic devices. The electrical resistivity because of carriers can be improved by the introduction of Li ions, as Li is a possible dopant for achieving pβtype ZnO. We have carried out a comprehensive microβRaman scattering study of the phonons in 1% Liβ and undoped ZnO needle crystals grown and annealed at 1073 K for 1 and 2 h under oxygen environment. Phonon mode of doped and undoped ZnO does not show any measurable shift for the doping concentration of 1%. As line width is related to point defect density, we find for both Liβ and undoped ZnO crystals the crystallinity is improving towards the tip of the needle crystals. We report new laser and nonlinear-laser properties of Nd 3+ -ion doped and undoped orthorhombic calcium niobate. In particular, we show that: Nd 3+ :Ca(NbO 3 ) 2 is a promising gain medium for LD-pumped microchip lasers and undoped Ca(NbO3)2 can give rise to high-order lasing covering more than two-
