โœฆ Synopsis

Cationic micelles of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, CTABr, speed attack of hydroxide ion upon coumarin by a factor of c.a-2, due to a concentration effect. The first-order rate constants, at a given hydroxide ions concentration go through maxima with increasing k , obs surfactant concentration. The overall micellar effects in these cationic micelles can be treated in terms of the pseudo-phase ion exchange model. Analysis of the data shows that secondorder rate constant at the micellar surface is smaller than the second-order rate constant in water. Anionic micelles of sodium dodecyi sulfate, SDS, inhibit the same reaction.

The N-acetyl-N-(2-fluorenyl)nitrenium ion (2a) reacts very efficiently with monomeric 2'deoxyguanosine (d-G) to form a C-8 adduct, N-(2'-deoxyguanosin-8-yl)-2-acetylaminofluorene (6), in an aqueous environment, with a selectivity ratio, k d-G /k s , of 13.1 ร‚ 10 3 M ร€1 at 0ยฐC and 4.8 ร‚ 10 3 M ร€1 at
