ConocoPhillips

& GE open joint water sustainability centre in Qatar C onocoPhillips and GE Power & Water have officially opened their joint Global Water Sustainability Centre (GWSC) in Doha, Qatar.

The centre, located at the Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), will research and develop innovative water solutions for the petroleum, petrochemical, municipal and agricultural sectors.

About 75% of the GWSC's work will focus on the petroleum and petrochemical sector and about 25% on non-industrial sectors like municipal and agriculture.

Approximately three barrels of water are produced for every barrel of oil produced worldwide. The water usually contains residual components. After treatment, the water could be used in a number of applications.

"The GWSC couples ConocoPhillips' industrial applications and field expertise with GE's leading-edge technologies in chemicals, equipment and advanced membranes to develop innovative water solutions for our operations and the communities in which we operate," said Stephen Brand, senior vice president, Technology, ConocoPhillips.

"GE has had a long running collaboration with ConocoPhillips for over a decade, and the GWSC is a natural extension of our relationship," said Christine Furstoss, chief technology officer -Water & Process Technologies, GE Power & Water. "This collaboration will harness our collective strengths to explore solutions that address not only the world's most pressing water challenges, but the region's as well.
