Abstract

A discussion is presented of the various problems associated with the formulation of predictive techniques relating to the mechanical response of high polymers to radiation. In particular, dosimetric difficulties and errors arising from disregard of sample variations are analyzed. Criteria for the engineering evaluation of radiation sensitivity are examined. The usefulness of rank correlation in preliminary analysis of radiation effects data is outlined. Typical examples are given of explicit correlations between properties, the application of statistical kinetic theory, and semiempirical and empirical response relationships. The limitations of the various approaches are discussed.
