✦ Synopsis

A pressure balance and temperature compensation chamber for the shaft seal on a submersible electric motor is described. A chamber between two shaft seals has a flexible element for temperature compensation. A non-return valve allows fluid to be expelled from the chamber but not enter. A compensating element compensates pressure across the second shaft seal. Redundant seal components are also included.

## Abstract Extended chain polyethylene fibres have been treated in ammonia and oxygen lo‐pressure gas discharges (plasmas) in order to enhance adhesion to epoxy and unsaturated polyester resins, respectively, and thus significantly improve fibre/resin interfacial properties in fibre‐reinforced pol
