โœฆ Synopsis

Six examples were used to illustrate the application of a previously reported method of calculating molecular weight distribution from gel permeation chromatograms.

These examples show that the correction for the imperfect resolution of the GPC column is important when the distribution is narrow but minor when the distribution is broad. They show also that the variation of the resolution factor h, defined previously, with eluent volume can be neglected in the calculation. When the chromatograms are very narrow in distribution or when they are complex some difficulties are encountered. The two computer programs written to implement the previously described numerical calculat, ions are shown to be adequate for these difficult cases but there are also limitations.

## Abstract The objective of this paper is the modelling of the molecular weight distribution (MWD) and the polydispersity index (P. I.) of polystyrene grafted on porous silica beads prefunctionalized by a thiosilane molecule. Grafting occurs by a transfer reaction to the fixed mercapto groups. We

In the calculation of molecular weight averages by GPC, the traditional method uses the calibration curve obtained at the same concentration as the samples, which results in a large degree of disagreement between molecular weight averages at several concentrations. Because of the concentration depen

A novel GPC calculation method has been developed for characterizing star-shaped styrene-butadiene block copolymers (SBS). This method enables us to determine the degree of branching (number of arms per molecule) of the synthesized polymer without the need of a priori measurement of the true molecul
