✦ Synopsis

Mesoporous CeO 2 ±ZrO 2 mixed oxides with high surface area and regular pore system were synthesized and their applications as an active support of palladium catalysts prepared by the deposition±precipitation (DP) method is investigated. The nanometer sized particle strongly interacts with the mesoporous supports. Catalysts were characterized using XRD, TEM, N 2 physisorption, BET surface area, and hydrogen adsorption. Compared to mesoporous Pd/CeO 2 and mesoporous Pd/ZrO 2 , the mesoporous Pd/CeO 2 ±ZrO 2 mixed oxides are found to be eective catalysts for the methanol decomposition. The eect of ultrasonic vibration during the DP of palladium over the supports further enhances the catalytic activity.

The composition (CuO/ZnO/Al 2 O 3 ¼ 30/60/10) of a commercial catalyst G66B was used as a reference for designing CuO/ZnO/CeO 2 /ZrO 2 /Al 2 O 3 catalysts for the oxidative (or combined) steam reforming of methanol (OSRM). The effects of Al 2 O 3 , CeO 2 and ZrO 2 on the OSRM reaction were clearly i
