## Abstract Osteolytic bone metastasis is a frequent problem in the treatment of cancer. Ipriflavone, a synthetic isoflavone that inhibits osteoclastic bone resorption, has been used for the treatment of osteoporosis in some countries. Some other isoflavones also exhibit an antitumor effect __in vi

β¦ Synopsis
A human melanoma cell line has been established which when inoculated subcutaneously into nude mice, is consis-tent1 y metastatic. In order to document blood-borne spread. apparent. Macroscopically detectable metastatic spread at autopsy was reliably indicated by weight loss of the animals. Metastases were widespread and involved the lungs, abdominal cavity and organs and the gonads. The size of the primary tumour at the time of its removal, and not the period of S.C. growth, determined the incidence of metastatic disease. Retask, whereas all of the animals showed widely disseminated disease if the turnour was allowed to attain a size of 1.6 g before excision.

Human colon cancer frequently develops liver metastasis. Matrilysin (MMP-7), the smallest member of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family, is commonly produced by human colon carcinoma cells and has been suggested to be involved in the progression and metastasis of this type of cancer. Animal models for breast cancer metastasis are valuable tools for studying mechanisms of metastasis and for preclinical testing of anti-metastatic therapy regimens. Using MA-11 and MT-1, two oestrogen and progesterone receptornegative human breast cancer cell lines, we developed new models in nude r
We reported earlier that IL-1 inhibits the growth of human melanoma cells (A375-6), and that these cells become resistant to IL-1 after prolonged periods of culture. The resistant cells constitutively produce IL-alpha and IL-6 with IL-6 production was induced by endogenous IL-1 in an autocrine manne
