✦ Synopsis

Emission and absorption spectra (liquid nitrogen temperature) arc reported for the bis diphenylphosphinoethane (dppe) and bis diphenylarsinoethanc compkxes of the Rh(ili) and Ir(III) d6 ions. No emission was detected for the analogous Ru(l1) compleses. The emission observed is broad, structureless and exhibits a large Stokes shift. Emission Lifetimes are all =psec magnitude. From these data the emission can be assigned as a metal localized 3E --f 'Al emission.
