## Abstract The synthesis and reactivity studies of 4‐hydroxy‐6‐methyl‐3‐(5‐phenyl‐2__E__,4__E__‐pentadien‐1‐oyl)‐2__H__‐pyran‐2‐one **2** with nucleophiles are reported. Reactions of **2** with hydrazine derivatives gave new pyrazole‐type com pounds while the reaction with __ortho__‐phenylenediami
