โœฆ Synopsis

the rotor becomes considerably spaced from the stationary seal ring. The frictional engagement of the secondary seal O-ring prevents the seal ring from tracking the rotary seal ring, and thus from closing this gap. This problem is exacerbated when the mechanical seal is shut down, and the : rotor axially creeps away from the stator. When the seal is subsequently started, the seal face separation results in excessive seal leakage. In some cases, the mechanical seal may resist attempts from the seal rings to create the proper seal. Replacement of the seal components is then necessary.

This patent uses torque transfer pins that are manufactured from memory metal. The purpose of this is to reduce wear and breakage of the torque transfer mechanism in the seal. In the event of excessive torque, such as during startup, the memory metal can withstand the additional superelastic strain,

This patent describes a piston ring that is claimed to provide reduced friction and wear. The design allows independent adjustment of the parameters controlling friction and wear to eliminate the trade off between low friction and low wear typical of prior art rings. The contact interface area betwe
