view through the system with points A and B sitting outside a maximum transmission point. Fig. 3 is a photograph with zero transmission of the system coincident with the horizontal view.

It is emphasised that the fog itself is not simulated but rather the effect of fog on a horizontal field of view from an elevated view-point.

Other applications exist where a transmission effect located at infinity is required but so far they require a transmission change which is somewhat sharper than would appear feasible with gratings.
