✦ Synopsis
2-Benzoylpyridine semicarbazone (H2BzPS) and its complexes [Cu(H2BzPS)Cl 2 ] (1) and [Zn(H2BzPS)Cl 2 ] (2) have been synthesized and their spectral properties have been studied. The electrochemical behaviour of [Cu(H2BzPS)Cl 2 ] (1) has been investigated. [Cu(H2BzPS)Cl 2 ] (1) crystallizes in the triclinic P-1 space group, aZ9.278(1), bZ12.848(1), cZ13.923(1) A ˚, aZ84.54(1), bZ71.91(1), gZ85.14(1)8, with two complexes per asymmetric unit (ZZ4) and a disordered methanol solvent molecule (occupancyZ1/4). [Zn(H2BzPS)Cl 2 ] (2) crystallizes in the orthorhombic P2 1 2 1 2 1 space group with aZ11.983(1), bZ14.067(1), cZ18.706(1) A ˚, and two independent molecules per asymmetric unit (ZZ 8). In both cases, the neutral semicarbazone acts as a tridentate ligand which coordinates the metal through the pyridine and imine nitrogen atoms and the carbonyl oxygen. Two chloride ions occupy the fourth and fifth coordination positions.
