✦ Synopsis
The oxygen consumption rates (standard metabolic level) of three Paluevnon adupersus populations from Fjords in the Belt Sea (Baltic) with different salinity regimes and of Palaemon elegana from the Black Sea measured under summer temperature conditions i n a flow-through respirometer are almost identical. A possible interpretation of these findings from the evolutionary standpoint and its practical importance for research into brackish water environments is briefly discussed.
