โฆ Synopsis
Message from the President of the Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine
The appearance of the first issue of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine marks an important event in the development of this most promising medical scientific discipline. Like the Society itself, of which this publication is the official organ, the journal encompasses the entire spectrum of magnetic resonance applied to medicine. The society is an assembly of basic scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and clinical scientists. The subjects of investigations of these society members include NMR imaging strategies, basic physiologic studies by NMR spectroscopy and electron spin resonance studies, and advantages of various machine designs and data acquisition sequences; also the quest to discover the limits of .safety of the multiple parameters of magnetic resonance and attempts at normal and abnormal tissue identification by imaging and spectroscopy, and so on. This issue of the journal and the many others to follow reflect these multifaceted activities. Hopefully the articles in the future will maintain the high standards set by this inaugural issue, making the journal the premier source of reference for all that is significant in the field. With the help of the members of the Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and other workers in the field this goal should be achieved. The able leadership of one of the fine pioneers in the discipline, I3ditor-in-Chief Professor Raymond Andrew, and his Editorial Board inspire the Society's confidence that this new and much needed endeavor will be successful.
