✦ Synopsis
Dear all
Dear IFToMM officers (Chairs of MOs, Chairs of PCs and TCs, members of EC) It is a great privilege and honour for me to be elected to serve as President of IFToMM for 2008-2011. I thank the delegates and the Chairs of Member Organizations (MOs) for having accepted my candidature and for promising support for future development of IFToMM.
I thank the current President, Professor Kenneth Waldron, and the members of the Executive Council (EC) for the actions they have guided in the last term that have been responsible for the continuing success of IFToMM.
I thank the members of the next EC for their availability to support further initiatives to enhance the efficiency and visibility of IFToMM, which will be the main guidelines for my term as President of IFToMM. Of course, there are many other matters of interest that will receive due attention in the service of the President and the EC, and solutions of those aspects should be considered as a consequence of these guidelines.
Activity. The mission of IFToMM is to promote the development of MMS through collaboration of colleagues around the world. IFToMM should be a stimulus for activity in all aspects of MMS within local, national, and international frameworks, and this activity can best be stimulated under the auspices of IF-ToMM because of its world visibility. We need to promote the participation and initiative of individuals within IFToMM MOs, and these individuals must receive satisfaction and appropriate rewards for successful activity within and for IFToMM.
Visibility. It is important that we take pride in being members of the IFToMM community, and we must advertise the activity and significance of IFToMM through our individual actions and communication of information. A great deal of information about IFToMM and its activities is available on our website (www.iftomm.org), which we shall continue to improve with the help of IFToMMists. We need to increase the visibility and awareness of the significance of IFToMM and much can be done by MOs in their own environments and surrounding countries. There is a great deal of existing activity, including conferences, courses, seminars, bilateral projects etc., which have been started and held under the umbrella of IFToMM but without clear advertisement of the IFToMM involvement and patronage. We must all try to give proper visibility to IFToMM through activities compatible with the mission of IFToMM.
I believe that the future success of IFToMM depends strongly on the effective participation of individuals. Participation at all levels must be encouraged through the Permanent Commissions (PCs) and Technical Committees (TCs), and through the IFToMM MOs.
Let us be proud to be IFToMMists and let us collaborate enthusiastically to enhance MMS for the benefit of technology and for improvement of society.
I thank you for your attention to these few lines on my personal view for my IFToMM Presidency. I shall be at your disposal for sharing ideas and actions.
