We are pleased to present the first issue of Design Automation for Embedded Systems. This journal is the first to specifically address research issues in design automation for embedded computing systems. Embedded computers are ubiquitous in industrial society, the New York Times estimated that the average American comes into contact with 60 microprocessors every day. Given the needs to develop complex applications on embedded computers, to develop them quickly, and to develop them for safety-critical applications, interest in computer-aided design tools for embedded systems is burgeoning. New and old problems in hardwaresoftware co-design, system design and design of embedded software are capturing the attention of the academic community and industry. This first issue contains papers from internationally recognized researchers in the field. Their contributions cover a broad range of topics, indicative of the intellectual breadth and depth of this field.
The quality, range, and depth of this issue will be sustained in future issues of the journal as well. Our editorial goal is to attract and accept high-quality research contributions and present them in a timely fashion so that the results can be appreciated and utilized by an international audience of researchers, educators and practitioners. We hope and expect that Design Automation for Embedded Systems will make a valuable contribution to the area.
