✦ Synopsis
The asymmetric unit of the title complex, [meso-Ni(1,7-CT)][Cr(C~2~O~4~)~2~(phen)]~2~·8H~2~O (1,7-CT is 5,5,7,12,12,14-hexamethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradeca-1,7-diene; phen is 1,10-phenanthroline) or [Ni(C~16~H~32~N~4~)][Cr(C~2~O~4~)~2~(C~12~H~8~N~2~)]~2~·8H~2~O, consists of one-half of an [Ni(1,7-CT)]^2+^ cation, one [Cr(C~2~O~4~)~2~(phen)]^−^ anion and four water molecules of crystallization. The Ni^II^ atom (site symmetry \overline{1}) is coordinated by four N atoms from the tetraazamacrocycle in a square-planar geometry, while the Cr^III^ centre has a distorted cis-CrN~2~O~4~ octahedral geometry. A network of π–π stacking interactions and O—H...O and N—H...O hydrogen bonds helps the formation of a three-dimensional structure.

In the title mononuclear zinc(II) compound, [Zn(C 16 H 36 N 4 )]-(ClO 4 ) 2 , the Zn 2+ atom lies on an inversion center and is coordinated by four N atoms from the macrocyclic ligand. The coordination geometry is slightly distorted square planar.
In the title compound, [Ni(C~16~H~36~N~4~)][CuCl~4~], the cation is centrosymmetric and the anion lies on a twofold rotation axis. The cation and anion are linked by weak N—H...Cl hydrogen bonds to form neutral supramolecular zigzag chains.
The crystal structure of the centrosymmetric title compound, C 24 H 48 N 4 O 8 4+ Á4Cl À Á8H 2 O, consists of a 14-membered methylsubstituted C 10 N 4 cationic ring which interacts with the chloride ions and water molecules of crystallization to give a three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network struc
