✦ Synopsis
I n the process of radical polymerization of S-vinyl compounds mercaptals were shown to be specific inhibitors for dibenzoylperoxides (BPO). The -S-CHz-S-group induces peroxide decomposition, forming benzoic acid and acyloximercaptals. This could be demonstrated by modell reactions of BPO with saturated low molecular weight as well as polymeric mercaptals.
