β¦ Synopsis
elcome to ASHRM's 25th anniversary! Twenty-five years of monitoring, managing and mitigating risk in health care. What a tremendous achievement: evolving from a small networking group to an organization known worldwide for its efforts in promoting a vision of safe and trusted health care. Who could have imagined it?
Think back over the past 25 years of your life. How have you changed, personally and professionally? A bit more wisdom, a bit more knowledge, a bit more gray? ASHRM, too, has changed. Our membership is now highly diversified, experienced, credentialed and recognized.
Our origins would never have predicted the size and structure that ASHRM has achieved in 2005. We've reached record numbers in membership, annual conference attendance and achieved exceptional financial viability. But now is not the time to rest on our laurels. We are challenged and, yes, burdened by questions rising before us: What will health care risk management look like in the next 25 years? What risks will be commonplace that never cross our minds now? How will organizations work together to overcome the challenges of both natural and man-made disasters?
In 25 years, a new generation of health care risk managers will be learning and enjoying all that ASHRM can offer. Are we ready for them? Do we have the structures in place that will allow them to benefit from the seeds of knowledge planted in our beginnings?
These are questions facing your 2005 Board of Directors. What a wonderful challenge to be part of what will enable our future leadership to accept the risks that the world will bring.
