✦ Synopsis
The third conference in the series was held recently in Slovakia. This is the only international fire conference dedicated specifically to wood and wood products. It started in 1988 and has been held at the same place in a beautiful mountain area of present Slovakia, which at the earlier conferences still was part of the combined Czechoslovakia. Previously, this conference mainly attracted attendants from eastern Europe, but there was a strong wish among the organizers, led by Dr Anton Osvald, to widen its geographical covering. This aim should be strongly supported because a lot of useful information was reported which would be hard to obtain otherwise.
This year the conference attracted over 100 attendants from 13 countries, among them several from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and USA.
Most of the papers presented from overseas dealt with different aspects of the fire performance of timber-frame structures, e.g. papers by A. Buchanan and G. Thomas (New Zealand), P. Clancy
