The meeting, which was attended by fifty-three people, was held at the Metropolitan Police Forensic Science -Laboratory (MPFSL) on 11 March 1987. It was opened by the Director of the MPFSL, Dr RL Williams, who welcomed the participants and commented on the importance of such meetings for sharing experiences. Dr A Giles, Head of the Questioned Documents Section, MPFSL, took the chair for the remainder of the meeting.
