The importance of early and complete (TIMI grade 3) coronary arterial blood flow has been established; however, long4erm follow-up data are scarce. In a prospective study of 2431 patients enrolled in the GUSTO-1 angiographic study, the mortality advantage of favorable angiographic posttreatment outcome doubled between 30 days (four lives saved) and 2 years (seven lives saved). Quality of life measures, including return to work and the development of congestive heart failure, paralleled the observations on mortality.
