โœฆ Synopsis

Books are facing threats from new electronic media, yet the number of new medical books published continues unabatedโ€”3657 released in 1995 in the UK. Books are changing and publishers are innovating with new formats, often linked in with new media such as CDโ€ROM. New technology has made publishing faster and cheaper using deskโ€top publishing techniques. The ending of fixed prices for books, with the demise of the Net Book Agreement, adds a further uncertainty to the future of the book. This paper examines the threats and the opportunities, and predicts that the book will survive and prosper.
