Reception and Dimer On Wednesday, October 16, 1968, approximately 400 Institute members and guests gathered to pay tribute to the men whose achievements had been recognized by the Committee on Science and the Arts during the past year. A reception honoring the 1968 Medalists was held at 6:15 P.M. in the lobby of Franklin Hall, and at 7:00 P.M. the guests assembled for dinner in the Hall. The Reverend Ernest A. Harding, D.D., Rector of Christ Church in Philadelphia, gave the invocation. * * * * * During dinner, Wynn Laurence LePage, Chairman of the Board of the Institute proposed the following toast to Benjamin Franklin: "To this universal man all of us here tonight owe an incalculable debt. It is fitting that we take this opportunity to recognize the high tradition of scientific inquiry and of responsible government which are his legacy to us. I ask you to stand and drink a toast of affectionate tribute to our brilliant and dist,inguished ancestor, Dr. Benjamin Franklin!" * * * * * Dr. LePage then read a cablegram from Dr. Focke expressing regret for being unable to be present to accept his award. Dr. LePage then read a letter from Senator Hugh Scott of Pennsylvania, also expressing regret at being unable to attend the ceremonies. * * * * * DR. LEPAGE: "Tonight, as on other such occasions, we have with us a number of former recipients of awards of The Franklin Institute. Dr. Eugene W. Boehne, Chairman of the Committee on Science and the Arts, will introduce these distinguished engineers and scientists".
