โฆ Synopsis
Taiheiyo coal (C: 76-g%), Oyubari coal (C: 85.6%) of Hokkaido, Japan and asphaltenes prepared from these coals were hydrogenated, and the mechanism of high-pressure hydrogenolysis is discussed for Hokkaido coals of different ranks. Although each Hokkaido coal has a different rate constant because of the uniqueness of its chemical and physical structures, it is established that the mechanism proposed for one Hokkaido brown coal (C: 75.5%) and having a characteristic reaction in the initial stage: coal <fi' &) asphaltene (RI -+ oil ($1 can be applied generally to Hokkaido coals.
