Liquefaction of a low rank coal by tetralin was carried out in batch autoclave experiments. Two-stage heating, i.e. first, at the temperature of 340 or 380°C which favours a non-radical mechanism of H-transfer, and next, at 440°C was applied as well as one-stage heating exclusively at 440°C. Convers
