✦ Synopsis

The plot of Ai//0=o vs. 0 at a constant electrode potential given in ref. 17 may be shown to be • equivalent to (1-fl/q ,//¢ ~) vs. 0 after correcting the currents for mass transfer polarisation. "fl" is a factor correcting for the change in 02 caused by adsorption: fl = exp{-(c~n-z0)((02-02(0 o))F/RT} * After submitting this paper for publication, the author became aware of a recent paper by Fawcett and Levine 3T, in which Parsons' model ~8 is modified to include the discreteness effect of adsorbed electroinactive ions on electrode kinetics. Their results cannot be directly used for the case of adsorbed electroinactive molecules considered in the present work. The present approach also avoids introducing parameters not accessible to direct calculation or measurement, such as the charge on the transition state of the electrode reaction.
