Composite hydrophilic materials (CHM) containing collagen or cellulose as the insoluble fibrous component and potassium salts of proteinpolysaccharide or carboxymethylcellulose as the soluble polyelectrolyte were prepared as simple models of the connective tissue, cartilage. The tensile properties o
