✦ Synopsis

Diffusion welding represents an attractive joining technology. This paper deals with joining Al to Ti. Initial investigations were performed on Al99.5 and cp‐Ti in order to understand the diffusion process for technically pure materials. In further investigations AA5xxx and AA6xxx were joined with cp‐Ti in order to show the effect of alloying elements. The results concerning the mechanical behaviour of joints confirm the suitability of the process for high‐strength applications.
