## Abstract To make stochastic (probabilistic) failure predictions of a conventional or highly crosslinked ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) material, not only must a failure criterion be defined, but it is also necessary to specify a probability distribution of the failure strength.

Three types of high-strength polyethylene (PE) fiber-reinforced composite sheets were made by compression molding at the vicinity of melting point of the fiber. Sheet I was molded from only PE fibers. Sheets II and III were prepared by the compression molding of PE fiber with conventional high-and l
## Abstract The surface micromechanical properties of ultrahigh‐molecular‐weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) are critical in determining the wear, deformation, and fracture in the surface region. These properties have not been accessible to simple mechanical testing on a spatial scale relevant to these m
Fibers of ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) were prepared with the gel fiber drawing method, and the solvent and extraction solvent used were a general kerosene and gasoline, respectively. The thermal behaviors and mechanical properties of the fiber were studied using thermal analysi
## Abstract The interaction between oxidation and crosslinking in gamma‐irradiated ultrahigh molecular‐weight polyethylene with and without artificial aging was studied. The effect of the atmosphere during irradiation (air vs. low oxygen) occurred primarily within about 0.5 mm of the surface, that
