✦ Synopsis
The radiative lifetime Trad of the CH2(g 'BI) state has been determined using the CHz(g 'Bl +y lAl) emission produced by electrons incident on CH4. The value found for Trad is 1.90(%0.15) X lo* s. A second lifetime component, 8.5(* 1.0) X LO* S, has been measured which is related to either cascade from hi&x states or radiation due to another band system. Absolute emission cross sections o,, for the CHz(% 'B 1 -+g 'Al) radiation have been obtamed for the wavelength 4~~0-9000 A in the case of O-2000 eV electrons on CHa. At 100 eV we found for a,, the value equal to 2.9 (e 0.6) X cm* connected with the short lifetime component, and 4.1(1-0.8) x IO-l8 cm* including both lifetime components
